What Do You Fear?

“Ron, you might want to tighten your seat belt, we never know.” Those words came from a Mission Aviation Pilot who was on approach at 7,000 feet in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico. The runway was made by Indians from a village in great need of help. I confess that every time I flew into that village, I would bow my head and say, “Lord into your hands I commend my soul.” I was afraid. Not so much of dying, but the pain if I survived.

Have you or are you having fears about something? Maybe you have lost a spouse and now you have fears of how to handle this loss and being alone. You may have fears about paying the bills and the fear of losing something over that. You’re a student and a huge test is coming up and you fear getting a bad grade? You really need a job, and you fear the application and interview process. You may be afraid of a confrontation you need to have with someone. What about the need to lay some workers off and you fear what will happen to them or you are someone who has lost their job?

What do you fear? When those moments arise, what do you do?

This I know without a shadow of doubt, God cares about your fears. He cares so much that He gave us many scriptures on our fears.

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?” [Ps. 56:3-4 NIV]

“Do not be afraid of them (anyone), for I am with you and will rescue you.” [Jer. 1:8 NIV]

“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So, do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.” [Mat. 28-31 NIV]

“So, we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” [Heb. 13:6 NIV]

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and DO NOT BE AFRAID.” [Jn. 14:27 NIV]

Whatever you are going through or whatever you may have to go through, picture a loving Lord Jesus wrapping His arms around you and holding you close. That’s the peace I speak of. Jesus loves you and He wants you to have the peace you need in this life. There is no greater love or peace this world can give. DO NOT GIVE UP! Give your fears to Jesus.

Lord, I know you are near, speak to my heart,
